Dystopia. Surgeon, Perc and Peverelist. Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ at a secret location, 9pm - 6am

Surgeon (Dynamic Tension//Counterbalance)
Perc (CLR//Perc Trax)
Peverelist (Punch Drunk//Livity Sound)
Vito Arpino (Wunderkammer)
Mime (Dystopia)
Mr.F (Phonica)

It is time to announce our next date - we are looking forward to having the above in close company for the affair.

Surgeon, formally known as Anthony Child, has rapidly built a solid and, to a certain extent, innovative catalog of minimal dancefloor techno since his releases began appearing in 1991. Compared favorably with Detroit original 'Jeff Mills' from his earliest 'Downwards' singles on forward, Child's tracks have been a mainstay in the popular Motor City DJ's sets. A noted and increasingly popular DJ himself, Child grokked his skills from hip-hop and electro jocks, filling out his style with a driving toughness and appreciation for rapid cutting and flipping. Surgeon's entry into production was also noteworthy; urged on by producer 'Mick Harris', the former 'Napalm Death' drummer locked Child in his tiny studio, imploring him to "go mad." The result, the self-titled debut EP, was released on 'Downwards', and was instantly hailed as some of the highest quality U.K. techno of its time. Releases for 'Soma', 'Blueprint', 'Ideal Trax', and the ultra-exclusive 'Tresor' label followed, with the debut LP, 'Basic Tonal Vocabulary', appearing on 'Tresor' in 1997. 'Balance' followed in 1998, as did 'Force & Form' in 1999. More recent additions to his repertoire include releases on his 'Counterbalance' imprint as well as collaborations with 'Regis' as 'British Murder Boys', resulting in tracks which take a tone far darker, denser, and more industrial than those from his 'Tresor' years. Equally influenced by early electro-pop innovators like 'Tomita' and 'YMO', experimental groups like 'Can', 'Faust', and 'Suicide', and the tough grit of American electro and techno, Surgeon's mash-up is both straightforward and subtly experimental. Further influences from 'Coil', 'Psychic TV', and 'Whitehouse' in recent works and DJ appearences do not go unnoticed. A true innovator in the scene.

Perc is one of electronic dance music’s reference points: an internationally touring DJ, label owner and one of the finest producers around. For UK-based Perc, formally known as Ali Wells, his rise to prominence has seen him releasing atmospheric drone and premium techno since 2002. It was clear that he was destined for success when 'James Holden' supported one of his early demos. As usual, Holden was not wrong. Since then, Perc has taken to the decks from Mexico to Japan and in seminal clubs, such as 'Berghain', all across the world. His approach? Hard drive brims with tracks including his own productions and armfuls of tools. His sound? A blend of modern techno and choice selections from electronic music’s Birmingham and Detroit forefathers. When it comes to playing live Perc goes deep. He mixes purely his own productions both released and unreleased, reconfiguring them into driving sounds; drone becomes big room techno becomes broken-beat becomes groove. Perc creates industrial landscapes optimized for the dance floor. His label, 'Perc Trax', was founded in 2004 as a way for Perc to release his own productions, but has organically evolved into much more than just that. Under Perc’s careful guidance, it has since developed a cutting edge roster featuring acts such as: 'SAWF', 'Forward Strategy Group' and 'Donor/Truss' with heavyweights like 'Samuli Kempi' guesting. There are people in every corner of the globe listening for where both Perc and his label will go next.

Peverelist is the lynchpin of the Bristol electronic music music scene. His championing of homegrown talent has made his label, 'Punch Drunk', perhaps the defining contemporary label of one of the world’s most influential musical cities. His own productions have been hugely influential in shaping the second-wave dubstep sound, drawing influences from UK & JA soundsystem culture and European and American house and techno. His releases include genre-defining classics on 'Skull Disco', 'Tectonic' and 'Punch Drunk', culminating in the ‘Jarvik Mindstate’ album in late 2009. Peverelist, formally known as Tom Ford, productions and DJ sets are renowned for uncompromising, challenging, forward-thinking innovation and militant underground aesthetics, unusual in the increasingly homogenous and rave-orientated dubstep overground. He learnt his trade and furthered his passionate grassroots approach during a decade working in the UK underground frontline of inner city Bristol’s influential and last remaining independent record shop, 'Rooted Records'. Peverelist is a resident at Bristol’s definitive and original dubstep club night 'Subloaded'. He also co-promotes Bristol’s longest running monthly specialist dubstep event, 'Dubloaded', alongside 'Pinch', and has played at various events all over the world.

Support will come from Mime, Mr.F and Italy's Vito Arpino. Imagery throughout the night will be courtesy of the unparalleled Anomalous Visuals.

The evening will begin with an exhibition showcasing the distinct work of Gareth Barnett, Marc Fairhurst, Tom Kondrat and the indescribable Alessandro Bavari.

This Saturday Room One welcomes the return of Italy's exponent of robust minimal techno, Marco Carola; an artist who seems to command a reverent level of loyalty amongst his fans. He’ll be standing next to our resident selector Terry Francis and Items And Things signing Madato. Madato first caught our attention with his track ‘The Night's Rumours’ which featured on Magda’s fabric 49 mix and he’ll be backing up that initial pique with a live set that promises pure techno bravado.

R&S Records stalwarts, Pariah and Blawan, mark the UK live debut of their bass heavy techno collaboration, Karenn in Room Two alongside sets from Craig Richards and Peter Van Hoesen, who released his new album 'Perceiver' on his label Time to Expresss last month.

Room Three welcomes New York’s young gun, M A N I K, and new act on the block, BLOND:ISH, who have releases on Kompakt and Get Physical already, graciously exploring the realms of deep house, electronica, nu disco combined.

The Hydra: Deviation 5th Birthday. Moodymann, Dam Funk, Hudson Mohawke, Kode9, Benji B. Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ at a secret location, 10pm - 6am

One of London’s most forward thinking club nights celebrates five years of being just that with 'the Hydra' on Saturday 13th October when Deviation puts on a star-studded line-up, headlined by Detroit House icon Moodymann. From his sought-after releases on his Mahogani Music label to his outspoken interviews and DJ sets he’s a true maverick in his field and will be joined by Deviation favourite Dam-Funk, who performed at Deviation’s first birthday and will be bringing his live Funk exploits to the table. Making the birthday that bit more memorable will be Warp’s Hip-Hop wunderkind Hudson Mohwake. Hyperdub boss Kode 9 will be wishing Deviation many happy returns and of course the man who got the disco ball rolling five years ago Benji B will be taking you through the sounds that have made the night so crucial in London’s club scene since its inception.

Blackest Ever Black. Vatican Shadow, Cut Hands, Source Direct, Concrete Fence ++. Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ Corsica Studios, 5 Elephant Road, London, SE17 1LB, 10pm - 6am

Vatican Shadow, Cut Hands, Source Direct, Concrete Fence (Russell Haswell & ******** (live) Debut), Black Rain, Bruce Gilbert is... Beekeeper dj set, Slimzee, Young Hunting, Bill Kouligas (PAN) dj set, Powell (Diagonal) dj set

Blackest Ever Black presents its second annual label showcase in London on
Saturday 13th October, in collaboration with BleeD, at the Funktion
1-equipped Corsica Studios.

*
VATICAN SHADOW (UK LIVE DEBUT) *

Vatican Shadow will perform a much-anticipated live set for Blackest
Ever Black. This is Dominick Fernow's debut UK appearance in this guise,
and is entirely exclusive - there will be no others on these shores in
2012. VS's highly acclaimed cassette releases on Hospital Productions led
this year to reissues on B.E.B. (Iraqi Praetorian Guard) and Type, and the
formation of the Bed Of Nails label. Bringing together the rhythmic
dynamism of techno and the cathartic energy of his noise-oriented work as
Prurient, and exploring a paranoid obsession with the imagery of the War On
Terror and the cross-currents of extremism, Fernow himself has described
Vatican Shadow as "militant religious industrial… music for the world-scale
board game upon which it isn't clear who is winning or what side you are
on."

*
SOURCE DIRECT (DJ)*

Blackest Ever Black is beside itself with excitement - a rare thing indeed
- to confirm that Jim Baker of Source Direct will be playing a headline DJ
set.

Jim co-founded Source Direct with Phil Aslett around '94, and together they
were responsible for some of the most astonishingly moody, complex and
engrossing jungle productions of all time - released as Source Direct and
under various other names including Hokusai, Mirage, Oblivion, X-Files and
Sounds Of Life; on their own label and also via Metalheadz, Odysee,
Certificate 18, Street Beats and Good Looking.

Two decades later and the power and precision of their drum edits still
awes us (no one could chop up an Amen like SD), while the depth and scope
of their atmospheres still haunts us. This is music that inspires total
obsession - once initiated into the world of Source Direct, you never leave
it. Baker and Aslett parted ways in '99, and, though Jim has retained the
SD name, since then he's been an elusive presence at best, rarely making DJ
appearances; his set at the BEB night marks the beginning of his return to
the fray, with new material under the Source Direct name expected in 2013.
Outside of d'n'b circles, Source Direct remain criminally, astonishingly
underappreciated, and it's about time reparations were made.
*

CUT HANDS (LIVE) *

Cut Hands is the name under which William Bennett, founder and
sole constant member of Whitehouse, explores his intermingled interests
in thunderous African percussion, vaudou, extreme electronics and
unconscious communication. Last year saw the release of the debut Cut Hands
album Afro Noise I, and the full-length follow-up, Black Mamba, is due out
this Autumn. Its title track (b/w 'Krokodilo Theme') was released as a
limited edition 12" single on Blackest Ever Black in August. Bennett has
played live as Cut Hands at both of B.E.B's previous label showcases in
London (October 2011) and Manchester (February 2012).

*CONCRETE FENCE:
RUSSELL HASWELL & ********* (LIVE DEBUT)
*
Concrete Fence is a new collaborative duo comprising Russell Haswell and an
artist whose identity we're not allowed to reveal for contractual reasons.
Suffice to say this mystery artist looms large in the Blackest cosmos - no
BEB rally would be complete without him, really - and that he and Haswell
go way back. This, their live debut together, promises to be unforgettable.
Haswell's lifelong investigation of sonic extremes - particularly in the
realm of real-time, one-take analogue and digital modular synthesis - has
led to releases on Warp, Editions Mego, No Fun Productions, iDeal and
Warner Classical, and his 2007 UPIC album with Florian Hecker of course
gave Blackest Ever Black its name. His latest album is Factual, due to be
released by eMego in October.

*BLACK RAIN (LIVE)*

Black Rain is the brainchild of Stuart Argabright, the legendary New
York artist whose numerous achievements include co-founding seminal no
wave minimalists Ike Yard and producing the electro classic 'The
Dominatrix Sleeps Tonight' (as Dominatrix). Black Rain began as an
industrial death metal band, but eventually shrunk to a more exploratory
and electronics-leaning two-piece comprising Argabright and Shinichi
Shimokawa. Around 1993, the duo were commissioned to create the original
score for Robert Longo's film Johnny Mnemonic, scripted by William Gibson
and starring Keanu Reeves. Their astonishing work - a darker, more
percussive counterpart to Vangelis's Blade Runner score - wasn't used for
the movie in the end, and looked likely to languish forever in obscurity
before Blackest Ever Black reissued its highlights earlier this year in the
shape of the acclaimed compilation, Now I'm Just A Number:
Soundtracks 1994-95. Amid preparations for the reissue and remixing of Ike
Yard's self-titled album of 1982, Argabright will play a special Black Rain
set for us here in London.

*BRUCE GILBERT IS… DJ BEEKEEPER (DJ)*

Close followers of BEB will be well aware of the esteem in which we hold
Bruce Gilbert. The former Wire member's solo releases - particularly 1991's
Insiding and, recently reissued by Editions Mego, This Way (1984) and The
Shivering Man (1987) - and extensive work with Graham Lewis as DOME,
continue to intrigue and inspire. He has also collaborated with numerous
other figures that we hold dear - including Angela Conway, Rowland S.
Howard, Michael Clark and Chris Petit. In 2011 Gilbert collaborated with
Mika Vainio on a specially commissioned live performance - an echo of his
work with Pan Sonic as IBM in 2001 - and his short story 'Sliding Off The
World' was published in the Murmurations anthology (ed. Nicholas Royle).
For the Blackest night he'll be appearing as DJ Beekeeper, a guise he first
adopted primarily "as an excuse to manipulate other people's music" at
techno clubs in the 1990s.

*SLIMZEE (DJ)*

"London's number one," Wiley declares of Slimzee in their seminal
Sidewinder set of 2002. 10 years on and it's still the case: really Slimzee
is a DJ without compare, continuing to represent grime from the period when
it was at its most alien, most hard-edged and most furiously energetic.
Despite the occasional Rinse slot, Slimzee appearances in the flesh are a
relatively rare thing these days, and in this sort of context they're
unheard of. Expect a vinyl-centric set centred around the scratched,
scuffed but still devastating dubplates that he, and largely he alone,
possesses.

* YOUNG HUNTING (LIVE) *

Young Hunting is the Edinburgh-based duo of Marc Dall and Alex Ander.
Their EP The Night Of The Burning, released last year on Blackest Ever
Black, was a precocious masterpiece of gothic extravagance, while
their astonishing new material - including an upcoming 10" single and album
for B.E.B. - represents a move towards a more instrumental, meditative
music, one framed by ritualistic techno rhythm and fourth world
atmospherics. Their performance on October 13th will be only their second
to date, and their first in London.

*
BILL KOULIGAS (PAN) (DJ)*

As boss of Berlin-based PAN Records, Bill Kouligas has been responsible for
numerous sumptuous editions encompassing extreme electronic music, modern
composition and the experimental fringe of dance music. This is a label
that, remarkably, can call itself home to the likes of SND, John Wiese,
Trevor Wishart, Heatsick, Ghedalia Tazartes, Aaron Dillaway, Sewer Election
and Ben Vida.

*
POWELL (DIAGONAL) (DJ)
*
A friend and fellow traveller of BEB, London-based Powell has earned
considerable acclaim for his two releases to date, both via his own
Diagonal imprint. Ascetic electronic music informed by the swagger and
grime of no wave, the swerve of jungle and the militant sparseness of
European post-techno.

Additional guest DJs for this event - which will take place across both
rooms of Corsica Studios - still TBA.

Blackest Ever Black is the London-based label home to, among others, Raime,
Regis, Tropic of Cancer and Young Hunting. Last year's B.E.B. showcase at
The Basing House in London featured Regis, Cut Hands, Raime, Surgeon, and a
secret "reunion" set from the British Murder Boys.

Ether Festival feat. Resident Advisor. Mount Kimbie (live) Raime (live) Bass Clef (live) Ekoplekz (live) Airhead (DJ). Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ Southbank Centre, Belvedere Road, Southwark, London, SE1 8XX, 8pm - 1am

An evening of music across two stages curated by global electronic music authority Resident Advisor.

Mount Kimbie is the south-London duo of Dom Maker and Kai Campos, whose melodically rich, rhythmically complex music has exerted a significant influence upon UK club music these past few years. Following an acclaimed 2010 debut album for Hotflush Recordings, Mount Kimbie recently signed with seminal UK label Warp (a new full-length is in the works for early 2013) and make their return to live performance at this year's Ether with a headline show - their first London gig since April 2011.

Enigmatic London-based duo Raime seeks to re-establish electronic composition as a physical and emotionally inquisitive force. This performance serves as the UK premiere for their long-awaited debut album Quarter Turns Over A Living Line - out in October on Blackest Ever Black - with a new audio-visual live show presented here for the first time.

Bass Clef - recording alias of prolific London producer Ralph Cumbers - is the artist behind one of the year's most brilliantly unconventional dancefloor full-lengths, Reeling Skullways. Collaboration and live performance are the life blood of Cumbers' artistic endeavours, and he is set to perform twice on the night - first in an audio-visual session in Purcell Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall with his live electronics collaboration, Ekoclef, alongside Bristol-based experimentalist Ekoplekz, and later on in the Queen Elizabeth Hall Foyer with a full Bass Clef live show.

Airhead is a UK producer in the ascendant. Rob McAndrews records for the greatly influential R&S Records and will release his much-anticipated debut album through the label early next year. Playing a special DJ set, Airhead kick off Part 2 of the event in The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall.

Ticket prices are £17.50 (this includes both Purcell Room show at 8.15pm, and The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall show at 10pm) and £12.50 (The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall show at 10pm only). Mount Kimbie perform in The Front Room.

A Night With.... Greg Wilson. Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ The Loft Studios, 87 Scrubs Lane, London, 10pm - 6am

One of the ones we've been waiting for. The disco edit legend takes us on an 8 hour marathon journey through his vast musical knowledge.

***UPDATE 25 Sept***

Due to overwhelming demand and after much consideration we’ve taken the decision to move A Night With... Greg Wilson on 13th October from it’s original home at Basing House to the larger venue Loft Studios.

The event sold out much sooner than we’d expected and, as Greg is one of our favourite DJs, we wanted as many people as possible to be able to come and be a part of what’s sure to be a momentous night. All tickets are, of course, still valid, if you’ve any queries or concerns please send us a message here or on info@anightwith.co.uk and we’ll get straight back to you.....

Here's a quick word from Greg about the night:

"I’ll be approaching the session as 2x4 hour halves. The first half will be a selection of tunes I played during my original years as a DJ (1975-1984), the second being tracks I’ve played since my DJ return, covering a similar period of time (2003 to date) to give proceedings a certain symmetry. I remember playing for 6 hours at The Key in London in 2005, but that’s the longest I’ve played since I started again – 8 hours (in a contemporary sense) is new ground for me."

Night Moves. DJ Spider, Jane Fitz & Jade Seatle. Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ at a secret location, 10pm - 6am

Another night to move....

Night Moves returns on Saturday October 13.

Resident DJs and promoters Jane Fitz & Jade Seatle once again welcome you along to another unique party. Joining them this time and making his European debut is DJ SPIDER (Plan B Recordings NYC).

All the elements are in place: our venue is lovely, the staff great, the drinks cheap. The hand-built sound system and restored 70s&80s disco lights are back. DJ Spider is coming all the way from New York to unleash the underground sound of the Bronx, alongside Jane & Jade, both digging deep in their record collections once again. As ever, all three DJs will play together all night - no set times, no headliners, just NIGHT MOVES all night long.

All that's missing, now, is you...

Early bird tickets have SOLD OUT. Tickets are still available at £8 for the next two weeks. We plan to save 20 for the door, unless all other tickets sell out in advance and then these 20 will be available online before the party.

PLEASE NOTE: The venue has a limit on capacity and we will not oversell this party.

NIGHT MOVES does not flyer. NIGHT MOVES never tells you what you're going to hear. The NIGHT MOVES facebook group is secret (you have to come to a party to join it - if you've been and aren't a member, then let us know). We never give out the venue address unless you have bought a ticket in advance or you contact us

SIDEXSIDE
Part 1
HORSE MEAT DISCO SXS DANNY KRIVIT
We are very excited to announce the first show of the new SIDEXSIDE concept. We welcome some of our favourite bearded DJs - Horse Meat Disco.

Now into their eighth year, Horse Meat Disco have continued to lead the way with packed residencies at their HQ at The Eagle in London’s Vauxhall, Lux in Lisbon and with the Tape organisation in Berlin. Inspired by the music and inclusive ethos of New York’s club scene during the ’70s and ’80s, the collective have garnered a unique reputation for amazing parties and unmatchable sets, the quartet of DJs each mixing their own individual quality blend of disco juice with all manner of dancefloor fillers: be it punk funk, italo, house, electric bangers or plain old oddities!

HMD will perform alongside New York legend Danny Krivit, his list of residencies and associations demonstrates every ounce of his legendary status. Danny Krivit is the don behind the immensely popular 718 Sessions and one-third of the Body & Soul collective. He started DJing at age 14 and learned from all the greats, including James Brown, David Mancuso and Larry Levan and become famous for his funk, soul, and disco edits (under the Mr. K name). Expect Danny to dig through his enormous record collection to deliver an inspirational insight to one of house music’s living legends.

The collision and combination of Horse Meat Disco and Danny Krivit sharing an entire night of music is something that has certainly got us excited. Now where are my dancing shoes?

Tickets on Sale: Tuesday 14th August priced from £15 - £20

SIDEXSIDE is a series of contemporary music events, a celebration of DJ’s and the power of shared creativity that drives our scene forward. The concept’s very simple:

Two artists sharing an entire night of music, playing together; side by side.

SIDEXSIDE will create DJ partnerships that’ll excite, challenge and inspire. With an entire night as their blank canvas the DJs have time to push boundaries, to dig deeper into their record collections, pulling out classics, dance floor destroyers, guilty pleasures to hidden treasures.

Holic Meets Souvenir. Chris Wood (Souvenir/Freebase) Meat (Souvenir/Freebase). Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ at a secret location, 11pm - 8am

We have long wanted for their family to meet ours and finally it's on!

On the night Chris Wood and Meat from SOUVENIR RECORDS will be Djing. Chris's passionate style is what gets the crowd hooked over an over again. his ad-in of effects and loop enriches his mixes. And his label mate and long time friend Meat aka Carsten Schuchmann is well experienced DJ with massive knowledge of wide range music as running legendary FREE BASE RECORDS as well. "If you are only interested in a straight night of minimal techno you are wrong booking Chris Wood and Meat. But you can expect surprises and sweat all over!"

Residnet Tomoki Tamura, who seems to be going from strength to strength in his performances, is with our doubt is one of London's hardest working DJS. Working the crowd from the first ever HOLIC parties he knows you intimately and what it takes to get ya to shake! Also he is a head honcho of HOLIC TRAX. Bunker 194
"BUNKER 194" is a London's friends concept party which first started in 2010. Originally located at the ''basement 194'' (Holloway), after quite a few successful parties the event was moved to various venues in the heart of East London's underground party scene. The music is predominantly Funk/Disco/House and sub-genres such as Techn-House, Deep House and Nu Disco.

BUNKER 194 started as a party for friends and as we grow, it continues to be one big party for those who are addicted to the music and good times. We have grown purely by word of mouth and if you have been to a BUNKER party you will understand why.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to the BUNKER, there's something for everyone, so if you have a passion for music, and want to surround yourself with positivity, come join our gang.

Out of Hand. Phil Weeks & Detroit Swindle. Was On Saturday, October 13th. @ Bussey Warehouse, 133 Rye Lane, SE15 3ST, 10pm - 6am

Phil Weeks, Detroit Swindle, Marsham, JonnAy & Bradley (Le Piscine), Joel Bar

Well...we definitely went and got out of hand back in June with Spencer Parker & Jef K, and now we are back to do more of the same - and we couldn't be more excited about bringing you some of the best House music talent around in Phil Weeks and a LONDON DEBUT for Detroit Swindle.

Phil Weeks really needs no introduction, he is a house music purist. Whether DJing or producing, the Parisian with the huge personality delivers raw beats influenced in e...
qual measure by classic Chicago house and nu-school French flair, underpinned with a hip-hop attitude. His long running Robsoul Recordings also defines him as one of the most skilled label heads in underground house music.

Detroit Swindle consists of Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets, 2 guys that, without actually growing up together, have had pratically an identical musical upbringing. A vibrant mix of Motown-soul, funk, hiphop and jazz inspired them from an early age on and after a varied exploration through techno and house, they met each other by mutual interest in Detroit inspired deephouse.

2012 is the year of their first releases. With their 'Starvin EP' on Saints & Sonnets, and their second EP in 2012 released on Dirt Crew it's not been bad for a debut year.
