TOM CLARK

Unimpressed by the hype, Tom’s label Highgrade is not only an integral part of Berlin’s success story but also stands for the fresh and new sound of the city. Tom’s own releases and DJ sets have been detonating on the dance floors of the city and the rest of the world for a decade now. Tom’s passion for music began at an early age when he used to play a mix of Hip Hop, Disco, NDW and Rock on Cassette Recorders and one turntable at school parties. His class mates loved it, and so he became a DJ. He soon refined his taste in music: Black Music, Hip Hop, Chicago house and of course those amazing first Detroit records defined his style. At the beginning of the 90’s he began a mini club night with some friends which gave his Dj career a real push. He was booked more and more for after-hours and parties until the larger clubs began to notice him. His reputation as an untiring, precise and emotional DJ soon brought him residencies at two of the cities most important clubs which have characterized Berlin as being the Techno city No 1 worldwide: The Tresor and the E-Werk. Tom founded the now no longer existing label “Gold Plate Music” with a friend in 1997 to give the new Berlin
club sound a platform. Highgrade Records was founded in 2000, a label with which he wants to take minimal house music to another level and discover new sounds. In ten years of Highgrade’s existence it has become his main assignment to pick out the tracks, find new and exciting acts and take care of his artists. He puts together networks of like minded artists and DJ’s and is planning label nights with befriended labels like Freak ‘n’ Chic and Wagon Repair at the legendary Berghain. He found the true friends and partners in Todd Bodine and Mariana Luzardo who have helped him to make the label as successful as it is today.

CLIVE HENRY

Clive is one of the UK’s longest standing flag-wavers for underground house music having been an original member of the West London house mafia, one half of the genre-defining tech house outfit Peace Division and resident at the world’s most musically influential nightclub DC10. Clive started his long musical journey way back in the mid-eighties when he was working after school to earn money to feed his vinyl addiction. He caught the DJing bug
going to local hip hop jams in West London and listening to early electro/hip hop on pirate radio. It was all about to change however, when in 1988 he was introduced to London’s early acid house scene by Rocky and Diesel from Xpress 2. They took him to the seminal Spectrum and Shoom clubs which proved highly instrumental in shaping Clive’s musical future. Not long after, Clive and Rocky started running their own successful nights in
the emerging West London party scene called Bone and Gosh with guests like David Holmes, Andrew Weatherall and Ashley Beedle. It wasn't long before Clive started playing at his own events, which in turn lead to bookings
at other clubs, first in London and then across the UK. In 1998 he founded the iconic tech house label Low Pressings with fellow suburbanite Justin Drake who went on to become his production partner in Peace Division.
During this period Clive relocated to Ibiza every summer and in 2000 on after a night out at Space with fellow DJ Lottie they stumbled across the now legendary Circo Loco after party held at DC10 on Monday mornings. Back
then DC10 was more like a social club for DJs, promoters and their friends and it wasn’t long before Clive was a regular feature at the club. He hasn't looked back. During the last decade Clive has established himself as the
British backbone of the club laying down his trademark brand of deep no-nonsense house music week in week out having being invited to join DC10 stellar roster of residents back in 2005. Clive’s residency at DC10 brought him into contact with Crosstown Rebels front man Damian Lazarus who quickly bought Clive into the Crosstown family.

It's been a very busy first 6 months in the life of London's hottest new promotion, Makin' Moves. Not only have we brought you some fantastic terrace parties this summer down at the Brixton Club House but we've also established a residency party upstairs in the LOFT at the Bedroom Bar in Shoreditch not only showcasing great dj talent but artists from the Makin' Moves record label in the process.

For our final party of the year we have decided to go out with a bang and found one of the best warehouse spaces right in the heart of Shoreditch to bring you an event to remember. Joining our residents Jamesey and Matt L-S on the night playing his first set in London for over 5 years we're very honoured to have Glenn Underground gracing the decks.

Glenn Underground is the founding member of the Strictly Jazz Unit. He was raised on disco classics and freeform jazz in Chicago's Southside, the place where house music was born. Taking inspiration from Chicago's original pioneers, Larry Heard, Ron Hardy, Lil' Louis, and the like, Glenn has produced some of the most well respected deep house music of the past five years. His releases for Cajual, Prescription Guidance and Peacefrog have set the standard for sophisticated dance music. He is one of the few DJ's who can walk the line between deep jazz house, disco influenced house, and the kind of classics featured at the legendary parties of late 70's Chicago.
