A Night With…Cassy
Saturday 17th July 2010
**Secret Location**
10pm – 6am
Advance Tickets £10-£15
Only Available from http://www.residentadvisor.net

Having already brought Michael Mayer, Matt John and Wolf + Lamb to an intimate and welcoming east London audience, ‘A Night With’ returns in a big way to present what is set to be an epic and spellbinding Night With…Cassy.
The last party was a sell out and so we urge people to get their early-advanced tickets for Cassy to avoid any disappointment.

One of the world’s leading female DJs, Cassy has built her reputation around drawing people in with her unique beguiling style. Born in the UK, growing up in Austria, and living in Berlin, Cassy’s diverse set of cultural and musical influences has given her sound a mystique that tends to captivate and intrigue the attentive listener and observer. Famous for her long and elusive sets, such as her legendary boat party in Miami, Cassy posses a diverse and varied musical taste that takes you on a journey that you don’t want to end. Her multi-faceted musical background began to carve itself out when she first took on the role as a vocalist for Elin aka Autorepeat and on the back of this success, Electric Indigo was able to convince Cassy to not only invent herself as a singer, but also to learn how to mix records.

After moving to Berlin she proceeded to build a reputation as a talented house and techno DJ securing a residency at cult club Panoramabar and had the honor of mixing the first Panoramabar compilation. Collaborating with artists such as Steve Bug, Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Mathew Jonson, her tracks and remixes have been released on labels like M_nus, Playhouse, Get Physical, Perlon, Dessous, and Mental Groove. More recently she has also started the label "Cassy", where she has currently released two records.

Forthcoming episodes yet to be announced from Tobi Neumann, Magda, Anja Schneider, Steve Bug - each artist will perform alone for the entire evening, presenting their own personal musical journey from start to finish, to a small and intimate crowd. A simple concept that is focused purely on enjoyment, it strips everything back to the bones to create an extremely special occasion for all those in attendance.

SATURDAY:

The Lovebox crowd will be in for a rare treat when the phenomenal Roxy Music take to the main stage on the Saturday night. Fans of the band should visit www.lovebox.net to see exclusive audio and video content released by Roxy Music to celebrate their headline spot.

Bryan Ferry said ‘There is a song on my album that I have co-written with my friends Groove Armada. They asked me if Roxy would like to perform at Lovebox. We, of course, thought it would be cool.’

The newly-formed Mark Ronson & the Business will be joining them on the bill, alongside the acclaimed Empire of the Sun who are playing their first ever London show.

Internationally renowned outfit Booka Shade headline the Relentless dance stage on Saturday and we have our own slice of Berlin in the capital in the form of Jesse Rose, Henrik Schwarz Live and Dixon (Innervisions). We are also proud to welcome an East vs West London soundclash to Lovebox, the Hip Hop and R N B crews Work It and Yo Yo will be pairing up for a proper NYC style block party!

Alongside the show-stopping performances there will be another healthy dose of Lovebox's summer shenanigans; with the 40 acre site playing host to numerous other stages, performances and activities.

The infamous NYC Downlow also returns to Lovebox for 2010 after a year’s hiatus. This life-size ruin of a NYC tenement will resurrect New York’s golden age and festival-goers can expect to enjoy an eclectic mix of disco, soul, funk and dance.

As well as offering a diverse music experience - the bustling food market, Sourced Market, returns again, serving up culinary treats direct from the best stalls at Borough and Broadway markets. Colony. w/ Arne Weinberg - Live. Was On Saturday, July 17th. @ The Russian, 267 Kingsland Road, London, E2 8AS, 9pm - 5am

Arne Weinberg (live), Asusu, FD, MB, CB, Ali Macdonald, Samuel Parij & guests

Hot on the heels of a(nother) bone-crunching Rhythm Factory tear up, COLONY returns to the inimitable surroundings of The Russian for more late-night underground crossover frolics. This will be our last party for a while (got debts to pay/festivals to cruise), and as such, we've picked an extra special headliner for you, not to mention two fine young supporting selectors and, down in the dungeon, our good mates Ghetto.

Said headliner goes by the name of Arne Weinberg. A true champion of deepside club music, his singular take on purist techno has marked him out as amongst the planet's finest producers, in any genre. With a long catalogue of releases on labels as revered as Down Low, Styrax, Matrix and Echocord, a wonderful pair of LPs on his self-owned AW-Recordings, and forthcoming wares for Derrick May's Transmat Records (touch wood!), his pedigree is unquestionable, putting most so-called "techno" producers to shame. This will be his first ever London live show, and one which, for lovers of deep, emotive electronic music (be it house, techno, electro, electronica or whatever else), simply isn't to be missed. Support comes from two of the UK's brightest young things: Gloucester's Asusu and London's FD. Asusu has recently come to the fore with a stunning 12" for Bristol's Immerse recordings, building on impressive work for Project Squared and DubKraft, which has seen his brooding, hypnotic take on sub-aquatic 2-step played by everyone from Ben UFO to Perc. An excellent DJ in his own right, this will be his first appearance in a London club, and about bloody time it is too. FD, meanwhile, is no stranger to the city's soundsystems, having co-organised Plastic People's superlative Medium parties for the past three years, and garnered an increasing number of bookings on the back of an excellent collaborative 12" for Kasra's Critical Recordings. A DJ unafraid to cross genres and tempos (something his recent FabricLive promo mix demonstrates with aplomb), he'll be dropping a typically chunky selection of beats to get you moving, shaking and possibly even wiggling.

Residents MB, CB, Darkin and Foy will be filling the gaps with their usual barrage of cutting edge sights and sounds, whilst one floor below, Ali Macdonald and Samuel Parij - aka the minimalists - will be rocking things Ghetto-style - which means generous lashings of the rawest, funkiest house and techno played on vinyl and only vinyl (plus the odd special guest if you're lucky). Sounds like a party, right?

Balance Series. w/ Agoria, Oxia, Jimpster & more. Was On Saturday, July 17th. @ Cable London, 33A Bermondsey Street, London, SE1, 10pm - 6am

Following a string of very successful, highly acclaimed mix CDs, Balance join the We Fear Silence family and we are very, very pleased about it! Agoria will be rocking out Cable's Main Room with help from Oxia in a 4 Hour Back 2 Back special. In The Bar, Freerange's Jimpster, an old friend of the We Fear Silence camp brings his extremely fine blend of house music, alongside bloggers Get Down Good. One big love in...

Blaze Festival. Toots and the Maytals plus Lee Scratch Perry. Was On Saturday, July 17th. @ Barbican Centre, Silk St, London, EC2Y 8DS, From 7pm

Toots talks to Ben Eshmade about life on the road and his music on the Blaze Podcast 3 (Toots, CéU, Bomba Estéreo) by Barbican Music

One of Jamaica’s true musical legends hosts an evening of classic reggae and ska as part of a special weekend focusing on the roots of Caribbean music. One of the original legends of ska and reggae, singer and composer Frederick ‘Toots’ Hibbert - perhaps the last of the pioneers of the music still working with his original power and inspiration. Tonight Toots and the Maytals perform a set full of classics and invite guests Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry and Max Romeo to share their own rich catalogue.

Toots and the Maytals’
late 1960s collaborations with Chinese-Jamaican producer Leslie Kong produced three classic albums and a string of hits throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s – including Do the Reggay (a 1968 single widely credited with coining the word reggae), Pressure Drop , 54-46 Was My Number and many more.

The group also featured in one of reggae's greatest breakthroughs – the 1972 film classic The Harder They Come , starring Jimmy Cliff. Toots and the Maytals were rediscovered during the late 1970s reggae-punk and ska revival period in the UK, when their songs were covered by The Specials and The Clash. The band has continued to tour and record, winning a Grammy in 2005 and in 2006 recording an unforgettable version of Radiohead's Let Down for the tribute album, Radiodread , by the Easy Star All-Stars.

'The Maytals were a favourite of rock critics of the 70s and listening to Funky Kingston, it is easy to hear why. The muscular rhythms, Fred “Toots” Hibbert’s hoarse exhortations and his simple, slightly surreal lyrics harked back to the spirit of a more fundamental age that rock music had lost.' BBC Review on Toots and the Maytals' Funky Kingston

OVERKILL LONDON - "Viva La Glade!"

Overkill events started in 2004 as an experiment to bring together the more edgy
live acts from the electronic and band worlds to make new exciting parties.
The collective gained momentum when Glade Festival invited them to run a
stage which has grown year on year to become a major part of the more mental
side of the Glade musical spectrum. Now also hosting one of the main stages at
Bloc festival, Overkill is a focal point for live electronic music from the edge,
extreme entertainment.

For 2010 Overkill had a huge lineup planned for the Glade Festival which
recently announced that it was cancelled for this year.
An Overkill spokeswoman said "We were ready to get wild in the countryside with
the Overkill stage.. since Glade got cancelled we thought there should be an
event on that weekend to give the supporters a chance to meet up and go
mental.. a release of pent up energy if you will."

Over two rooms at London's most hedonistic venue, Corsica Studios and Overkill present a fine selection of the worlds most amazing mentalists.
