Meeting of musical minds Size Doesn’t Matter Joins Rootikal … bringing you the perfect end to Europe’s biggest street party!

Nick Manasseh has been a resident at Size Doesn’t Matter’s annual carnival after party and true reggae fest for the past 5 years and needs no introductions… We thought it would be “nice” to give him a little company this year so we invited Chris Peckings, a living West London legend and proud representative of Peckings Records the infamous record shop founded all those years ago on Askew Road supplying West London with the finest riddems around! (and still going strong)…

Nick and Chris are the genuine article, as they say, and I look forward to the rumble of roots reggae from our bass bins underground in the Ginglik in the heart of Shepherds Bush.

Supporting these pioneering veterans are Size Doesn’t Matter regulars Si Kurrage and friends and Rootikal’s Dave Hill and Stuart Patterson. Dave and Stu have been supporting the reggae scene in there own special way with their own distinctive night RootiKal, and this year have seen the likes of Gappy Ranks, Linval Thompson and Reggae Radio Heavy Wieght David Rodigan bless their endevors… long live the reggae revolution… “we don’t beg nor steel nor slip on no banana peel!”

See you all on carnival Monday and remember…

“Conscious Reggae for Rootikal People”!

Having already named three corkers for our August Bank Holiday mash up – Orbison, Mayer & Martin, This compelling end-of-summer knees up finally reveal our full line up.

We are about to make your August Bank Holiday partying decision very simple…

Read on….

The Wighnomy Brothers make a very welcome and long overdue return to London, Robag Wruhme & Monkey Maffia got to know each other in 1989 (supposedly while break dancing) but became the Wighnomy Brothers in 1997. The Wighnomy Brothers’ music is self-described as “raving with reason”: sometimes cheerful and sometimes dark, together or solo the pair make minimal techno that punts straight for the dancefloor.

Thomas Fehlmann (now 52 years of age) but Fehlmann's passion for electronic music certainly doesn't seem to be waning. In the early-'90s he teamed up with Moritz von Oswald and Juan Atkins to work under the 3MB moniker, and has also been brought in as a member of The Orb. Fehlmann mixing dubwise Berlin techno sounds with elements of classic Detroit house, retaining the shimmering melodies that Fehlmann has made his trademark.

Alongside hero Michael Mayer, finishing off the mulletover vs Kompakt showcase is Jo Saurbier.

The world's largest independent music site - Resident Advisor adds further twists and turns from London’s hotflush label - Scuba

Paul Rose, founder of foundation Dubstep labels Hotflush and Scuba Recordings. His early shows on pirate radio in London led to a close involvement with the beginnings of the scene that became known as ‘Dubstep’
The debut Hotflush release hit the street in 2003 and the label has gone on to become one of the most distinctive and innovative labels. With a catalogue of over a dozen singles featuring scene leaders such as Shakelton, Benga, Distance, Boxcutter and Vex’d to name a few, Scuba is considered a Dubstep visionary who’s own production explores the nuances of a style still pregnant with possibility.

Alongside "Hyph Mngo/Wet Look" God’ – Joy Orbison plus support from Harri & Dominic (Sub Club, Glasgow) & Ewan Smith

As one of the leading labels in tech-house over the past five years, Dirtybird Records roles into town from the West Coast with a very special guest….
But you will have to wait for now… But alongside Justin Martin are some very special friends in tow - J.Phlip, Sketchy & Another Amit

Phlip (pronounced J Flip) discovered house music in her hometown of Champaign, Illinois. Her proximity to Chicago’s famous house scene tremendously affected her sound, with her sets posses a fun, “lets-not-forget-this-is-dance-music,” feeling and simultaneously keep you guessing about what might come next. Her collection spans house, deep house, techno, booty bass and pretty much anything that make you shake your ass. She’s currently locked in love in San Francisco, with her skills on the decks and in the studio securing her highly desirable spot as an official member of the dirtybird crew.
Showcasing great acts in unique urban spaces; eastern electrics bring the raw feel of the underground back to the London scene for one more time before the end of the year.

Join the voyage, do something different with your precious
after dark hours...

Only Three Exclusive Shows Across 2010 ///
Award Winning Funktion One Sound ///
Three Unique Urban Locations ///

ketoloco. w/ Solomun & Christian Burkhardt [Live]. Was On Sunday, August 29th. @ The Light Bar, 233 Shoreditch High Street, London, E1 6PJ, 2pm - 11pm

Solomun, Christian Burkhardt [Live], Kanio, Huxley, KeToLoCo DJs

After the success of the last party - where Ilario Alicante exhibited a master class of crowd control with his frenzy making beats - Ketoloco rerun to the Light Bar for one last time this summer.

With a new, super crisp Funktion ONE soundsystem installed, the Light bar is set to bounce hard to the sounds of Solomun, Kanio, Christian Burkhardt [Live], Huxley and the Ketoloco DJs.

Solomun is a rare commodity in 2010 - a DJ and producer very much with his own identity. So much so, in fact, his Diynamic label has singlehandedly put Hamburg house on the map, as well as helping to carve out careers for the lines of Stimming and H.O.S.H. Expect the man to play looped, tech-y house with weirded-out and idiosyncratic percussive detail, real instrumentation and all in a variety of shades from deep to jacking.

Calling in for a live show is Remote Area, Oslo and Deep Vibes aligned German producer Christian Burkhardt. Known for his Dutch sounding tech house productions, the man’s music in fact draws influence from house, minimal and even hip hop. Intricate structures, complex percussive rhythms and a sense of evolution are all present in his live show which is ever changing; growing; improving.

Rising London based DJ and production talent Huxley – who has released his deep 4/4 cuts on labels like Cécille Numbers and Tsuba – also gets in on the action along with talented selector, mixer and producer Kanio. And, of course, the beating heart of all these parties, the Ketoloco residents, are also on hand to warm you up before, and bring you down after, the main headliners.

And with its open air outside area (which can be covered if the rain Gods so dictate), location in the shadow of London’s Gherkin building and breezy, airy interior, the light bar is a perfect August venue which allows the sunshine to beam indoors and helps keeps the summer vibes going all afternoon and evening long.

For one last session this summer, as the afternoon turns to evening; as the BBQ continues to simmer and as the music goes from deep to more propulsive grooves, it's time to get 'loco.

Kerfuffle Karnival Alldayer. w/ Joshua. Richard Grey, Marc Ashken & more.... Was On Sunday, August 29th. @ Jamm, 261 Brixton Road, Brixton, London SW9 6LH, 4pm - 4am

Richard Grey ( Ladies Favourites)
Grant Dell (Headtunes, Uhuru)
Miles Sagnia (Aesthetic Audio)

Marc Ashken (Fear of Flying)

& Residents Liz Edwards & Rochester

It’s going to be strictly shorts and flip-flops for our annual sunny summer excursion to Brixton beach. With highlights like West Coast Housemeister Joshua at the controls it’s sure to be hot and sticky so get your tan topped up and your lounger in position – we’ve been digging this kind of laid back groove since well before the Germans arrived on the scene.

You Are We. w/ Lee Curtiss (Wolf&Lamb) & Session Victim (Retreat) . Was On Sunday, August 29th. @ Corbet Place,Truman Brewery Car Park (off Commercial Street), London, E1, 2pm - 11pm

Lee Curtiss (Wolf&Lamb)
Session Victim (Retreat)
Playset (You Are We)
Mr.Dickie (Family Affair)

YOU ARE WE ft Lee Curtiss (Wolf&Lamb) & Session Victim (Retreat)

On the 29th of August we keep up the pressure with two more superb bookings at You Are We. As this will be our summer closing party we’ve got an extra special line up to mark the occasion. Following their UK debut earlier this year at You Are We, we are very pleased to announce Session Victim will be back behind the decks on the 29th of August. Expect an all vinyl showcase of upfront house music and a selection of rarities from the last 20 years!

Also joining Session Victim we have Wolf & Lamb’s very own Lee Curtiss. Curtiss produces exquisitely deep dance tracks incorporating countless genres but beholden to none. Lee Curtiss is an eccentric ten-year veteran of the electronic-music scene—a factor that shines through in all his tracks’ and DJ sets. We can’t think of a better artist to play our Summer Closing party so it’s a real pleasure to welcome him to You Are We.

East London favourites Playset promise to bring more inspired and eclectic house cuts on the night. As You Are We residents, Playset are responsible for establishing our sound and are fast raising their profile both in the UK and abroad. To complete the line up Mr. Dickie rounds things off perfectly. As one of the head honcho's at Family Affair his reputation speaks for its self. A true You Are We legend, its a pleasure as always to have him on the bill.

Last but not least...In the Autumn and Winter we will be taking our first tentative steps outside of Corbet Place to host a small handful of one off Saturday night parties designed to take the You Are We vibe to new heights. Key features will include an incredible custom fitted sound system, a brand new event space and a selection of very exciting world class international bookings. After this we plan return to Corbet Place next bank holiday season for more summer fun...so watch this space!

----------------------------------------------------------

ARGENIS BRITO (LIVE)

where to start about this professional musician, trained singer, passionate producer and smart innovator? The Venezuelan-born globetrotter and now-berliner has done it all, from being a South American pop star to being the singer in Senor Coconut's band to a string of excellent solo releases with a strong leaning towards reduced, cutting-edge, funky club structures on Crosstown Rebels, Tuning Spork, Karaoke Kalk, and of course Cadenza among others.

----------------------------------------------------------

FELIPE VENEGAS

the 30-year-old has cemented his reputation as one of Chile's finest DJs and producers. Classically trained and with a heavy influence of the timeless rhythms of salsa and rumba his music is beautiful, harmonious, and insistently danceable. Apart from his amazing Llovizna EP on Cadenza he has released on labels such as Cocoon, Supernature, Cecille, and many more.

----------------------------------------------------------

CESAR MERVEILLE

with his “Chocopop Jazz”, released under the name Cesar Maravillas, he's made a huge splash in 2008 and quickly caught the attention of Cadenza boss Luciano. Making his debut appearance on cadenza in 2009 Cesar touched down like a cyclone with his ep Descarga, which has become well known to clubbers as a highlight of Luciano’s sets. With residency at lo*kee where his colorful, upbeat sets provide a soundtrack perfectly calibrated for the feel-good hedonism, he's the perfect man to round up this amazing lineup.

secretsundaze. Daniel Bell (7th City), Tevo Howard – live (Beautiful Granville), DJ Essinn (Newfamily), Jacques Renault (DFA) & more. Was On Sunday, August 29th. @ Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA, 3pm - 12am

Hello beautiful people,

We are pleased to reveal the details of our Bank Holiday August Party on Sunday 29th August at Rich Mix Studio's 1 and 2...

After the response to our rockin last party at Rich Mix in May with Brawther and The Mole tearing it up, we decided to throw another party there this coming August bank holiday. We are very excited to announce that we have 3 superhot guests for you in the shape of Daniel Bell, Tevo Howard - Live and young Londoner DJ Essinn (Newfamily) all joining our residents Giles Smith and James Priestley.

Daniel Bell (7th City), Tevo Howard – live (Beautiful Granville), DJ Essinn (Newfamily), Giles Smith, James Priestley (secretsundaze)

Studio 2: ReviveHER w/
Jacques Renault (DFA), Pearl Flash DJs, Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros), Bi Bop (ReviveHER)

Address: Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA

Concessions: £6 before 4pm, £10 after

Send your full names AND your email addresses to jamespriestley@gmail.com for concessions list.

Daniel Bell shouldn't need any introduction but is so often overlooked. Dan definitely defies fads and fashion and remains one of the DJs DJ. He made his first tracks with Ritchie Hawtin and John Aquaviva releasing on Plus 8 but it’s through his work setting up labels Frictionalism with Anthony Shakir, Elevate with Theo Parish and Harmonie Park with Rick Wade that one realises his taste and influence. He has held a residency at Robert Johnson, plays regularly at The Bunker in NYC and guested at the legendary Perlon party at Panorama Bar only just last weekend. Ultimately in regard to the party it’s all about the djing; and Dan's mix CD released in 2000 "The Button Down" on the legendary Tresor imprint was voted second best mix of the last 10 years on Resident Advisor's Top 50 mixes; a pretty amazing achievement, illustrating his exemplary djing and timeless selection skills.

Also joining us will be one of the most talked about House producers of late that comes correct with a fresh approach to the old school, Tevo Howard - Live. Tevo first broke through a few years ago with his releases on his Beautiful Granville imprint such as his first EP with the hit "Everyday House music" and also more recent tracks on Hour House is You’re Rush the excellent subsidiary of Rush Hour. Just check the subtle and amazing use of 303 in the acid mix of "Move". Tevo has only graced these shores once earlier in the year for Sud Electronic and by all accounts threw it down so we're really hyped to have him at what really seems like his time. Check his recent interview for Resident Advisor here.

Tevo Howard's RA Podcast has been archived by the Resident Advisor but they have kindly made it available to secretsundaze for one week... Tevo Howard RA Podcast MP3

Last up Giles and James have brought DJ Essinn (Newfamily) into the fold for warm up duties, picking him out as one to watch for the future. Real name, Chris Ennis is an excellent DJ with a mature taste and a passion for real House and Techno.

In studio 2 we pass the reigns to ReviveHER. The young and elusive London collective have brought a breath of fresh air to the scene by combining a tongue in cheek approach to promotion with a novel angle on music policy. Joining resident BiBop will be Jacques Renault (DFA / On The Prowl); Jacques is a man of many talents and apart from his esteemed productions has regularly played the likes of Womb, Tokyo and London’s Fabric and Plastic People. Also joining will be Italo disco crew Pearl Flash DJs, who have connections with Deep Frequency and last but not least, Sean Johnston (Hardway Bros) an excellent, versatile DJ who is running the Love From Outer Space nights with Andrew Weatherall.

So that’s it folks. We think this is without a doubt one of our most mouth watering line ups of summer, fitting for the Bank Holiday session. We hope you can join us and experience some of the musical delights in store.
