Kraftwerk – The Catalogue. Radio-Activity . Was On Thursday, February 7th. @ Tate Modern, Bankside; Southwark; London SE1 9TG, From 9pm...

German electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk play eight live performances in Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall in their first London dates since 2004.

KRAFTWERK - THE CATALOGUE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 is a chronological exploration of the group’s sonic and visual experiments and presents eight classic master works from across their celebrated repertoire with spectacular 3D visualisations and effects.

Combining sound and images, the performances showcase nearly 40 years of musical and technical innovation, including new improvisations, 3D projections and animation. Commencing with Autobahn, each night covers one of Kraftwerk’s groundbreaking studio albums in full and appear in order of their release — Autobahn (1974), Radio-Activity (1975), Trans Europe Express (1977), The Man-Machine (1978), Computer World (1981), Techno Pop (1986), The Mix (1991) and Tour de France (2003) — alongside additional compositions from their back-catalogue.

Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider began the Kraftwerk project in 1970 at their electronic Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf, Germany. Within a few years they had achieved international recognition for their revolutionary electro “sound paintings” and musical experimentation with tapes and synthesizers.  With their visions of the future they created the soundtrack for the digital age. Their compositions, using innovative looping techniques and computerised rhythms, have had a major international influence across a range of music genres. Their use of robotics and other technical innovations in live performance illustrates Kraftwerk’s belief in the respective contributions of both man and machine in creating art.

The performances have been curated by Klaus Biesenbach, Chief Curator at Large, The Museum of Modern Art, Art, Marion Ackermann, Artistic Director, Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen and Catherine Wood, Curator (Contemporary Art & Performance), Tate Modern.

Bleed presents.... Maria Minerva. Was On Thursday, February 7th. @ The Shacklewell Arms, 71 Shacklewell Lane, London, 8pm - midnight

BleeD present a second February showcase, following a sold out Holly Herndon show at Cafe OTO. Headlined by Estonian pop-experimentalist, Maria Minerva, with support from Patchfinder and Paco Sala.

MARIA MINERVA is the new pop model, gone strikingly off-road and deep into your subconscious. Having grown up in Tallinn, Estonia and now relocating to New York after spells in London and Lisbon, this 23 year old straddles hi-end academic viral pop modes and delicious bas(s)e cultural modes and has released a hypnotic stream of tracks, remixes and videos via the Not Not Fun and 100% SILK labels.

PATCHFINDER is a synth cave dweller and hoarder of electroics, flavouring Western music with exotic scales, juicy modular sounds, and uncanny digital emulations.  Live performance is an endurance test of uncased, zombified samplers, weak solder joints, and the volatile stage antics of chalga diva Vera Modena.

PACO SALA are a London duo comprised of Antony Harrison and Leyli. Their 2012 debut on Digitalis was described by Boomkat as "a killer amalgam of squashed beats, lo-fi pop and narcotic, slo-jams", featuring in their albums of the year charts. They have subsequently featured live on NTS & Boiler Room TV. 2013 will see the release of follow up LP Put Your Hands on Me, again on US label Digitalis.

“Her music is a place where academia and pop culture, tastefulness and excess, dominance and submission, and yes, Hélène Cixous and Britney Spears, all commune in a hazy, libidinous swirl” - Pitchfork

“What makes this record special is its longing for undefined freedom, for means of self-expression, an Easterner questioning the latest Western devices. Who in female pop is still even asking such questions today?” - The Wire

Melt Music. Tama Sumo & Lakuti. Was On Saturday, February 2nd. @ at a secret location, 11pm - 6am

Tama Sumo (Ostgut-ton / Panorama Bar Berlin)
Lakuti ( Uzuri)
Arnaud Le Texier (Safari Electronique-Melt Music)
Maura (Leftroom-Melt Music )

This February 2nd, Melt is going to be seriously feeling the love. Back in a small, intimate setting with heart-shaped, secluded archways aplenty, Cupid is going to be absolutely all over this party. And what could be more romantic then having two DJs grace the decks that have sworn their lives to one another? In health, sickness and banging beats, Melt presents to you the timeless Tama Sumo and her gorgeous partner in crime, Lerato Khathi.

Tama Sumo’s first appearance under the Melt spotlight back in the summer of last year heralded the first time we really felt the night was starting to hit the right notes. As the crowd rocked on around her, Tama showcased an abundance of emotion, sexiness and a little bit of edge. Her disco infused, hard-hitting style simply had us howling for more. Having then caught the Panorama Bar resident play in Berlin for Cassy’s birthday in November, it was a no brainer to invite her back for a second bite at the cherry.

Standing side by side with her on the night will be none other than the Uzuri label supremo, Lerato Khathi aka Lakuti. Her label, which stands for ‘beauty’ in Swahili, is home to big scene players such as Jus-Ed, Levon Vincent and DJ Qu, which gives you some indication of what you can expect from her music on the night. Emanating from one of South Africa’s most culturally diverse regions, Soweto, Lakuti has lived and breathed dance music for many years now and we couldn’t be more excited to have her showcase her politically aware, soulful style in London’s East-end.

Naturally the night just wouldn’t be quite right without a little red-hot resident action either. The dishy Maura will be up first, rocking it for your delight and delectation. Also feeling the love bug on the night will be Arnaud Le Texier, whose label, Safari Electronique, continues to go from strength to strength.

With your January detoxes out of the way and those bank balances starting to sprout some green shoots of recovery, this is the perfect chance to dust off those dancing shoes for a pre-valentines love in…

Tresor Berlin. Juan Atkins, DJ Deep, Psyk, Dasha Rush (live). Was On Saturday, February 2nd. @ at a secret location, 10pm - 6am

For over two decades, Tresor Berlin has stood as a bastion of techno and house for the world. In 2013, the club begins its showcase residency in London with a slew of warehouse parties. The first will take place in a secret east London warehouse location with a line-up that typifies the sound the club has and continues to represent. Juan Atkins, who found a second home in Berlin at Tresor, has long been cited as one of the godfathers of techno. His releases date back to 1992 on the label and have since come to epitomise the long standing connection between Detroit and Berlin. With releases being constant throughout the labels 23 year existence, Juan Atkins continues to call Tresor home.

Accompanying the old guard is the new. DJ Deep’s 2012 critically acclaimed mixed compilation Kern Vol.1 was the first in what is set to be a series which documents each selected artist’s past, present and future. Dasha Rush has been a long time friend and collaborator of the club with her regular event “All You Need Is Ears”. Finally, Psyk is a young and promising artist who has been bleeping on Tresor’s radar for quite some time now. His track “Jackin” as Maan featured on DJ Deep’s Kern Vol.1

JUAN ATKINS

Juan Atkins is a Detroit Techno legend and founder of the genre, alongside Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, who are also known as the Belleville Three. Atkins is also known under several aliases such as Cybotron, Model 500, Channel One, Infiniti and he founded the legendary label Metroplex in 1985. Juan also has a long running history with Tresor, from being one of Tresor’s first bookings and a regular staple at the club when he’s in Germany. He also has an extensive back catalogue of releases on Tresor, including tracks, mixes and compilations. With the history and credentials that both Juan Atkins and Tresor hold and this being Tresor’s very first London showcase, this is a perfect opportunity to be a part history in the making...

DJ DEEP

DJ Deep also known as Cyril Etienne des Rosaies is one of the most revered members of the French scene and has recently had the privilege of releasing the first mix for Tresor’s Kern series. Tresor’s Kern series allows the free reign to provide an insight into the tastes and personal histories of their chosen artists. Having been a DJ for over 12 years, DJ Deep is well versed in the old and new and is masterful in the art of blending the lines between House and Techno whilst taking the listener on a journey. This makes him an obvious choice for such an ambitious mix series and for a London showcase of the historic brand that is Tresor.

DASHA RUSH

Dasha Rush is a Russian born expat currently residing in France. She has however spent time all over the world, including Paris, London and Japan. A true experimentalist, she has continually seeked to push boundaries by combining her activities as a techno producer and DJ with multi-artistic collaborations alongside artists and dancers. She has performed live as part of gallery exhibitions, using sound installations and theatre performances, exploring the emotional and technological aspects of electronic music. Dasha also runs her own label, Fullpanda Records and the experimental sub-label Hunger To Create. Dasha regularly plays at Tresor, whether it be a DJ set or her live collaboration project, LADA, alongside Lars Hemmerling. She is perfectly positioned to represent the sound of Tresor at
the showcase in London.

PSYK

Psyk, also known as Manuel Anós, hails from Madrid in Spain. He signed his first release at the tender age of 19 for no other than Richie Hawtin’s label, MINUS. He has since released on labels such as Drumcode, Mote-Evolver and with worldwide sets in clubs like Tresor,
Berghain, Fabric and many more, he has firmly planted his reputation as truly talented Techno artist. Thanks to a variety of influences, his sets perfectly combine fusions of raw techno alongside influences of house and minimal, with careful planning he creates a hypnotic flow in his sets which makes him one of the most talented DJ’s around.

Actress
Lone
Untold
Synkro
Throwing Snow,
My Nu Leng
My Panda Shall Fly

+ THEM:
Moto & Bagheera
Sduk & Cntrst

To celebrate Four years of their events, THEM have produced an exciting line up of DJ sets from some exciting names in UK electronic and techno music. Actress has not appeared in London for almost a year now and he is in high demand following his groundbreaking R.I.P LP. Lone also had a well received album ‘Galaxy Garden’ out earlier this year, a player that takes the idea of a nostalgic return to rave music and packs it with so much forward thinking production and ideas, Lone is a true talent. He is joined by label mate Untold, also the co-founder of Hemlock, a producer and label that “played a central role in dubstep’s mutation” (RA), he has since become highly sort after a s a techno artist, for his innovative, dark and tense take on the sound. To Complete the Room 1 bill we have brought in Joe Synkro, a man who has mastered his deep and vibrant ambient sound, an ethos of ignoring the influence on intended 'dancefloor destruction' and instead concentrates on song, texture and tone writing, into which he infuses garage, dubstep and techno influences.
Bringing a different vibe to the second room, Throwing Snow is an artist renowned for both his records and live musics on one hand, and his DJ sets on another, a division which other artists should take note of, although his records are truly a thing of beauty and craft, he has realised that some situations call for straight up dancing music, and he has shows that he is a man of just as much craft in such situations, in his selection of the very best of cutting edge, dark house and techno cuts mixed to perfection. My Nu Leng – a name to look out for in 2013, will be joining him. This talented Bristolian Production duo combine a 2006 Dubstep ethic of space, simplicity and sub bass weight with a grime attitude of skippy rhythms in their infectious Dark House, a sound born of the UK the perfect counter compliment to the main room. Innovative soundguy My Panda Shall Fly joins them, an artist concerned with processing, attempting to find brand new sounds by manipulating his material to extremes, MPSF has gained a reputation for fresh and experimental downtempo music, and also, when its time to dance, as a sick UK Garage selector. Catch him here on the decks dishing out some deeper Chicago House and Techno cuts. To top all this off are the THEM stalwarts Sduk & Cntrst and Moto & Bagheera, and if you dont know yet, lets just say you're in for a treat..

Rhythmatic presents Avotre Label Showcase. Santé & Rampa. Was On Saturday, February 2nd. @ at a secret location, 10pm - 6am

Santé (Avotre, Desolat, 8Bit)
Rampa (Avotre, Watergate Recs)
Stathis Lazarides (Rhythmatic, Cavo Paradiso)
The Unknown Project Soundsystem
(London Josef, Ma Teo, Federico Sandi)

Rhythmatic start the New Year with yet another UK exclusive. Firmly placed within the industry as the go-to party for introducing and showcasing talents from the world over, Rhythmatic are excited to welcome Avotre to London on February 2nd.

Avotre is not like the common, genre-specific labels we all know too well. Founded by renowned Berlin producer and DJ Santé, it’s far from another tech-house imprint that’s dropping hardly distinguishable productions every week. While house music might the bread and butter, R’n’B, downbeat and disco flavours are also celebrated by the labels crew including, Santé himself, Gigolo and Souvenir, Sascha Sible, Ahmad Laren, Sidney Charles and of course Rampa. This is a very special event for Rhythmatic as they yet again introduce another label set to make a stamp on this ever evolving music scene.

The same sense and sensibilities as Rhythmatic, Avotre is concerned about the scene’s well being. It’s another perfect match between label, promoter and party. This ethos doesn’t stop with the label; it’s felt through its members and in particular label owner Santé. His latest releases such as ‘Homegirl’ and ‘Spotlight’ have been extremely well received, as each of his new tracks toast to quality music and show off his ability to cleverly cross genres. Philipp has also been bringing the Santé sound as a live act with successful gigs in clubs like the Weekend, Watergate, Robert Johnson, WMC Miami, Fabric and Sonar to name just a few. His appearance at Rhythmatic is very exciting.

It’s been quite a ride for Rampa over the last couple of years. When it comes to DJing, his dedication to the four to the floor-aesthetic has wavered between punk-rock, hip hop, and any other suitable outlet for his genuine passion for music. His attitude and openness places him as an outstanding contemporary producer that still meets all the stylistic requirements of current tech-house. His work includes producing an album with Nomi of Hercules & Love Affair, a live-moniker and paring with likeminded producer Re.You, as well as spitting out his own new material. His serious grooves will be felt rumbling through the dancefloor this February.

Rid yourself of January blues and say cheers to health and wealth with an Avotre showcase at Rhythmatic’s first event of 2013. With an anniversary tour on the way, fresh branding and new project in the pipeline the Rhythmatic family, make sure you’re with them at the beginning of this significant year!
